Using the Selective Color adjustment, you can adjust the hue, saturation, and brightness of a precise color range in an image without affecting any other colors. The Selective Color adjustment features 8 individual color ranges — reds, oranges, yellows, greens, cyans, blues, violets, and magentas — divided according to the color spectrum.
Drag the sliders in the Selective Color adjustment to make adjustments to your selected color range. Hue : Drag the Hue slider to shift the hue of the colors in the selected color range towards a neighboring color range. Saturation : Drag the Saturation slider to the right to make the colors in the selected color range more intense, or the left to make them less intense.
Brightness : Drag the Brightness slider to the right to make the colors in the selected color range brighter, or the left to make them darker.
The ML adjustment improves individual color ranges in your image automatically using a machine learning algorithm trained on millions of professional images. Adjust exposure, highlight and shadow detail, brightness, contrast, and black point.

Take this picture as an example from the internet , it would be such a pain to remove all the white background areas using pixelmator. And mine are exponentially more complicated than this one.
All your main competitors have this feature. But neither the original pixelmator nor the pro can do this. I need to keep a copy of gimp on my computer just for its magic wand. Would you please add this feature? I suppose it would not be technically too difficult.

The question is, why isn't it working for you? One thought occurs: if you have a selection active before you press the 'Select Colour Range Could that be the problem? If not then come back and I'll happily troubleshoot with you.
